Define your values.

Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. They determine your priorities and goals in every area of your life.

Make SMART goals and commit to them.

SMART is an acronym for the following:  Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Time-Bound. Also make goals that will be relevant in the future.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

According to Jim Rohn “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.

The people you associate with have a huge impact on your life. To be successful, you need to associate with people who have a positive outlook to life. Positive people are optimistic. They help you boost your morale because they feel good about themselves and life in general.

Surround yourself with smart and confident people

Build your self-confidence and boost your life and career success by spending time with smart and confident people who are not threatened by you or your success but who are interested in seeing you succeed as well.

Invest in Yourself

The most important investment you would make is an investment in your personal development. To get ahead, invest in learning and acquiring the knowledge you need that would increase your value in the long run. Always apply confidence, knowledge, vision and positivity to every aspect of personal development

Broaden your horizons

Also learn to broaden your horizons. A good way of doing this is by traveling. There is always a clear difference between someone who is well travelled and someone who isn’t. You don’t have to spend such a great deal on travelling. There are a lot of budget travel deals; you just need to be on the lookout for them.

Get a Mentor

Your chosen mentor should be someone you look up to. It should be someone who has achieved what you want to achieve or something similar to what you want to achieve and can guide you towards achieving your goals.  A mentor, based on his experience, will be able to provide you with a lot of information thereby reducing your learning curve and the time spent on figuring out how to achieve your desired goal(s).

Join networking groups

By joining a networking group, you will meet like-minded people interested in a particular business venture, career, idea or goal. This helps to increase your exposure to your area of interest and to benefit from the experience of others. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss ideas and find solutions to related problems.

Attend conferences in your field or related to something you are interested in

Conferences are known for having a lot of creative events that encourage interaction, creative thinking and engaging lectures and conversations. During conferences, you can meet experts and influencers face to face. You can also network with people who have come from far and near.

Embrace Excellence

Excellence is the quality of being outstanding and extremely good. Excellence is neither perfection nor a road to dissatisfaction. It is recognizing the unlimited potential in you and deciding to be the  best you can be in what you do.

Don’t procrastinate

One of the reasons why people do not progress in life is because they procrastinate. They have great ideas of what they want to achieve. They think long about it. They make plans about it but when push comes to shove, they keep putting off the tasks needed that will make their dreams a reality.

Tips: stop thinking and start doing, start small, seek out small victories, give yourself a pat on the back, keep going until you finish it.

Don’t give up

As you try to progress in life, there will be obstacles along the way but do not despair. Obstacles are part of the learning curve and overcoming them is a vital step towards achieving your goal. Therefore, rather than despairing, see them as challenges and rise up to the challenge.  Overcoming the challenge helps you grow, makes you stronger and helps you develop life skills.

These are great reminders of how you can improve your life. Having people to look up to that has the same goals or serve as an inspiration helps you stay on track, but the best advice would be to never give up.

Invest in yourself is so important. We know what we need and we should not be afraid to learn these skills we lack. Don’t procrastinate we know for a fact is a rule, but in reality so hard to practice. Needs ultimate discipline.

Surrounding yourself with positive people is definitely important but they must also be practical people too! It’s not good to have people motivating you on because they are positive but not thinking!

All that you have listed here are beautiful tips, and something I need to remind myself every now and then. I agree that if we want to have a positive outlook, we surround ourselves with positivity, including people who think that way.

I think it’s important to surround yourself with positive people and those that will support and push you further. It’s also important to have a goal and a plan.

I like your acronym for Smart! Very true about surrounding ourselves with positive people & mentors… Negativity is unnecessary and poisonous!

I’ve always been told that if you surround yourself with negative people you’ll never succeed, so that surround yourself with positive people is a must.

Great tips! Especially “Invest in yourself”. We all need to spend some time with ourselves actually which rarely happens.

Like this post. It is a nice piece of work. No enjoyment without endurance. Surely, there will be obstacles on our way to the glory land or to achieve our aim but we should not be dissapointed for little or minor mistake.

Getting to the minds and interviewing successful people is interesting. Asking them about their SMART goals when they were first starting is what I always want to do. Finding a mentor that can train and hone your thinking is most ideal.
